If the "new" bbq tanks with the overfill prevention valve don't work, then I'll use my 20 gallon tank.Ĭlick to expand.I will try the opening the Schrader, I did not know that would allow for more gas to refill. I re-fill the cans 10 times (sharpie tick mark), more than that they tend to get leaks in the valves IMHE. Check the can's fill and pressure valves for leaks (spit or soapy water). Shut bbq tank valve, wait a little - then screw off the can quickly - propane will spill so don't be smoking or around open flames. When the pressure relief valve spits liquid propane the can is full. I take my baby hemostats and carefully pull out a little on the stem of the can's pressure relief valve, this is to let out some vapor so liquid propane can flow into the can. Open the bbq valve - hear the liquid propane going into the can then it quickly stops. Screw in my unit, screw on the throw away can after inspecting the can's valves and condition. I built my own apparatus based on what I remembered as kid 60 years that the old guy Oly used to fill my cans I used for wood burning, soldering and such. I been refilling 1# throw away cans for 40 years. Good storage tip for the bottles - they are the same diameter as the 1 liter soda bottles - the poly carry/stack carriers they use in retail stores work well for organizing. Has it been cold outside when you are trying to re-fill? - cold weather re-filling sucks - works best in warm/hot weather with an acclimated 20lb tank and freezer chilled bottles > LP flow will be bad in real cold. You might not be getting re-fill or propane outflow because the main port seal is collapsed - but they usually just leak - Does it feel sloshy like it's full? I found an angled needle nose pliers work best - you'll know when you have LP coming out - the valve will occasionally freeze up and refuse to re-seal - a drop of warm water usually does the trick.

PROPANE REFILL ADAPTER FULL
You aren't opening that Shrader relief valve as part of your bottle filling? - it's how you get a full bottle of LP and release the air bound part of the bottle - the bottles sold for re-filling have a threaded port & screw for the release.
